We feel her joy and her batteries recharge as she surrounds herself by fresh hair, animal noise, and the touch of every type of plant and flower possible. We end up understanding why Elizabeth flees from social life, ignoring all the fake and toxic nature of her wealthy fellowship and look for the company of her garden. The conversations between elizabeth and "the man of wrath", Irais and Minora were of the most importance to sum up (always with the most humorous and cynical brilliancy) living in a time where high born or married woman could not in any way tend phisically to their gardens.īeautifull inner dialogues about nature aswell, that did come as a refresh after those long dialogues full of information and details. It paints an era where women where supposed to behave a certain way, workers were treated as cattle, and men where stuck between a major gap made by wealth and privilege. Some great passings.īut the little jewels of this book lie on the construction of a time not so far from ours.
